Led Zeppelin: 1973-07-07 Chicago, IL (FLAC_AUD Master_3 CD)

This is an excellent recording of the July 7th, 1973 Zeppelin show in Chicago.  I'm not sure if this is one source only or if a filler source has been used in some areas like the  very first, incomplete track "Rock And Roll"?  There is a huge difference in sound once the second song, "Over The Hills And Far Away", kicks in and it is a huge improvement with a much, much cleaner sound.

This show didn't have a lot of information at all with it other than the lineage and the fact it has been "reworked".  I'm not exactly sure what that is suppose to mean, but who really cares when it sounds excellent I guess.

The crowd noise level is great and so low in this recording that it makes you almost forget the previous night's rowdy crowd and the problems they reportedly caused.  Even with a mono microphone being used, this recording has an almost superb clarity to it.  Too bad the taper didn't have a stereo microphone they used on this night.

Overall, this is an excellent recording that is very clean and clear and it let's the listener hear the concert very well with an excellent mix too.  Plant's vocals as well as all instruments are evenly distributed and very clear sounding.

I'm actually listening to the show again right now because it has been a while since I have heard it.  I'm mid stream in "No Quarter" right now, the temperature has dropped into the low 60°F range heading for 55°F overnight supposedly (after being 102°F two days ago), I just made me some hot chocolate, and it all feels like it's coming together very well with the music playing trough the home theater system just after midnight.   Something about this time of year, when the weather starts changing for the better and cooler temperatures, reminds me of growing up listening to Led Zeppelin and songs like "No Quarter" live but on the cassette tape The Song Remains The Same.  I don't know what it is that reminds me of those days and sets the mood, but there's no doubt that adding Led Zeppelin and "No Quarter" to the mix is what tops it off.  It wouldn't work without it.

Alright, getting back on topic now...you should love this recording if you enjoy Zeppelin's music.  The taper did a superb job and captured a great recording and night some forty-one years ago in Chicago and Led Zeppelin put on a superb show too.

I hope you enjoy the concert...
