Led Zeppelin: 1971-11-24 Manchester, UK (FLAC_AUD Low Gen Phase Corrected_2 CD)

Today is the 44th anniversary of this Manchester, UK Led Zeppelin concert.  This show seems to have been shared through the years with the audio not being phased correctly.  In this copy, "pernod" properly phased the audio and it makes a world of difference when comparing it to other audio copies that are not phased properly.

This recording is cleaner as I mentioned but it still falls into the great audio category.  Even being better sounding, it still lacks Hi-Fi sound and factors that would have improved the sound.  But it still is a show I like and one any Led Zeppelin fan not looking for the superb copies of shows only should enjoy.

There are a few short cuts in the audio.  From memory, "That's The Way" is cut just before the end and seems to be where a tape flip occurs.  I know the first few seconds of "Dazed and Confused" are also not there and it seems the taper had to pause or stop the tape before "Dazed and Confused".  And a small part of "Whole Lotta Love" and the last track "Thank You" are not complete either.  From listening to the show, I remember "Whole Lotta Love" seemed to be another tape flip area I had thought.  And there are some really unique and different parts of "Whole Lotta Love" that sound cool before any cuts come into play.  "Thank You", being less than two minutes long, is the final song in the recording and I imagine the taper realized he was running out of tape and did the best he could.

One thing I really do like was how the taper usually left the recorder taping except near the very end and when he had to flip a tape.  He wasn't the kind of taper that paused until he had too it sounds like.  He didn't pause the tape between songs and I think he only stopped the tape when really necessary.

The audio recording and level sounds even throughout the show.  It doesn't go between different sounding periods in the show.  The taper does a great job.  There are not a lot of audience noises or chatter either and that is a real plus.  If the taper had just had better gear this would likely have been an excellent or even superb recording because the taper does a great job on their end.  And Plant's voice is up front in the show too as well as John Paul Jones' bass.

I've got two or three more copies of this show and I believe this one is the best.  But I haven't found one, my first copy I ever had, titled Rave On yet.  The copy I believe this phase corrected copy is sourced from, a 2nd generation copy, sounds a lot noisier and distorted.  But the noisier copy is not phase corrected either.  There is some distortion in this copy I am uploading but not near as much and nothing to gripe about either really.

You can tell Led Zeppelin was putting on a great show and performance on this night.  Unfortunately, John Paul Jones' bass sounds louder than Jimmy Page's guitar.  But for one last time, the true fan not concerned with fidelity only will enjoy this because it is a record of the show, it is almost complete, the audio doesn't jump around in the way it sounds and remains pretty consistent throughout the show, and your ears do get use to the sound and the show becomes more and more enjoyable (to me anyhow).

I've almost listened to this whole show once again as I have been making this post and getting things ready.  And it is a nice piece of history from 44 years ago today we can listen to.  And I'm glad to have this copy.  Thanks to the taper (whoever they may be) and to "pernod" for revising this one and doing the phase correction work making the recording even more enjoyable!  I'm up to "Rock and Roll", which seems to be in a different place than one might expect it (like after "Whole Lotta Love") and by the time this show has uploaded and I post it I should have finished this great sounding show from 44 years ago today by the mighty Led Zeppelin.

I hope you enjoy the show...
