Led Zeppelin: 1969-04-27 San Francisco, CA (FLAC_SB/AUD Mix_2 CD)

This is a newer, non label silver CD's set shared in January by "fishey" over on Dime.  It is an excellent-to-great sounding recording too.

There are a zillion different copies of this show out there it seems.  Some are 1 CD, or just one set from the show, and some are more of a complete recording of the show like this one is.  Some do not have songs like "Sitting and Thinking" while others, like this one, do have that track.

I listened to the show late yesterday and really enjoyed it.  I cannot say it is the best copy of the show I have heard as far as sound goes.  But it is right there with a lot of other recordings and it does sound really nice.  There was no lineage given for the recordings used to make this recording.  The first set, or disc 1, from the show has always been a better soundboard recording.  The recording on disc 2 of the soundboard portion is still very nice but it is not as nice as disc 1.  The mix is not as nice I feel.  It is obvious that someone throughout the show was playing with the sound in various places.  And I have to assume that is what got recorded (their edits)?

The audience portion is very clean and flows perfectly when the transitions between soundboard and audience occur.  The levels are kept pretty constant in the changes and the show flows along just fine.  This show is a great show and the band is playing at full Led Zeppelin throttle too.

One thing has always bothered me with most recordings of this show.  With a few exceptions, most recordings have Jimmy Page's guitar in the left channel instead of the right on the stereo track.  I've never seen a photo of Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones flipping sides and playing a show and I'm pretty sure they didn't.  I don't know if the channels have been reverses or switched or just why this is the case.  But you really do not think about it after you start listening either.  The raw, energetic power of the band takes your mind right off of small things like that and the performance takes you away.

There was no audio clipping in the waveform and it looked very nice.  The "issues" in the recording are not just in this one recording and are in all of the copies we've heard over the years.  They aren't terrible or show ruining audio issues either.  Just having this full show alone makes up for anything that may not sound "as good" in the recording and it is a small price to pay.

I hope you enjoy the show...
